Lighten Up A sip of summer
Sarah Read
3 – 30 July 2016
Studies show that when people are exposed to bright light in the winter for just 15 minutes a day their mood lifts and their sense of well-being improves. For the midwinter month of July, Lighten Up beams bright light onto Tory St, one of Wellington’s main thoroughfares. Passers-by wading through the spillage unwittingly receive a subtle dose of uplifting radiance, and are invited to linger close to the lamp for an extra boost.
This work is part of an experimental series which explores the relationship between our physical self and mental state and the feedback loop that exists between the two.
