It’s a Thing
Sandy Connon
March 8th - April 4th 2020
This work was triggered by coming across a book called “The Seas, our knowledge of life in the sea and how we gained it” by RS Russell & CM Yonge, printed in 1936
It is a truly beautiful thing to hold, loved and valued, rich in history.
I paid $1.00 for it.
Many fine artists have contributed to the treasure trove of beautiful and insightful illustrations, paintings and photographs. It has prompted me to yet again reassess my thoughts and considerations as a consumer.
In this world of such waste, I invite you to do the same.
The Poem
the benevolent sun plants
thrive invisible pasturage
of the sea
animals breed
drifting freely
babies of the sea
of the minute
within a month they will have
fastened themselves to the rocks
by their heads, there to remain
kicking food into their mouths
until they die
