Working both as an artist and nurse has resulted in a crossover in my creative practice. Medical and other recycled paraphernalia, when used out of context, can create a tension between the familiar and the unknown. Transformed into objects and jewellery, I explore the relationship between the decorative and the original function of the materials.
Dr Russell Malcolm states in his article Art in Medicine
"The Arts and Humanities continue to respect the validity of individual expression and exploration. By respecting each unique narrative we open ourselves to the priorities and inner experience of our patients. We identify the contexts in which problems have evolved and we develop individualised strategies for change."
